Road Improvements

In November 2024, our Chapter and the Northern Arkansas Fly Fishers combined resources to purchase 3/4” gravel with fines for the purpose of making the access road smooth and pot hole free. Twenty truckloads of the gravel were delivered by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission and the Bull Shoals State Park personnel used their front end loader to create the improved road. The Army Corps of Engineers gave their approval of the project.

In early May, 2025, Bull Shoals Mayor William Stahlman used a backhoe to improve the ditch alongside the improved access road. The improved ditch has a higher berm and a cleared and widened gulley that should improve drainage and protect the road from excessive erosion. This part of the improved access was possible thanks to permission granted by Land Manager Jared House of ACOE and Bull Shoals State Park Superintendent Stewart Taylor.

The lower photo shows the deeper and wider ditch with
a higher berm to contain runoff and protect the road.
